Gracie Abrams' song "Risk" auto-played whilst I was driving the other day, and I've been obsessed with the song and her lyrical style ever since. Here's a poem inspired by the song's situation and circumstance.
🎹
i caught her gaze across a crowded room
a spark ignited, something i can’t explain
she doesn’t know me, and i might assume
but i’ve got this feeling i can’t contain
heard she just got out of something deep
maybe it’s too soon for me to try
but thoughts of her invade my sleep
and without her here, the night’s awry
gosh, i’m falling hard and fast
haven’t even heard her voice
could this be a love to last?
taking a chance, i make the choice
in my mind, she’s knocking at my door
words escape as our eyes meet
i’ve never felt this way before
her smile makes my heart skip a beat
i’m ready to dive into the unknown
embrace the risk, jump to the deep
too soon to think she’s in my zone
but i’m here, willing to take the leap
